Tickled pink to be a guest at the opening of the new works of my friend, Attila Richard Lukacs at the Macaulay & Co. Fine Art Gallery in Vancouver, B.C. on October 30th.

This show was of paintings Attila made of my garden over the course of the past two winters.
Said Malcolm Parry of the Vancouver Sun:
".....At Sarah Macaulay’s east-of-Main gallery Thursday, he [Lukacs} made another conceptual leap with colour-drenched works of a north coast Maui garden that are simply lovely. ..."

built this website by following directions of Leah Markham's videos.  I am VERY happy with her clear, comprehensive instructions.
You too can learn how to set up an effective website and promote your work online through this video series created specifically for artists. The videos provide valuable information whether you already have a website or not, plus choose the topics you want to learn. If you prefer to spend your time in the studio, Artist's Websites can set up a website for you that's very affordable and we'll show you how to update it yourself once it's complete (very easy to use). See Artists Websites for details.

PictureOil-stained closet doors in Maui custom home
In 2013 it was great fun creating custom closet doors, a mural for one of the bathrooms, and oil staining the cement, in a Maui home that is an art piece in its own right.

I'm honored having being commissioned to be among some of Maui's finest crafts persons in creating the vision of a truly out-of-the-box artist/designer of this custom home.

Catching up on last year's news ... it's now "olds"

Dear Blog!
I have neglected you...  so, to catch up:

In the fall of 2012 i took a series of 8 classes in tri-hue watercolor with one of Maui's most beloved visionary artists and educators, Dick Nelson.
How did I ever get to be so lucky?!
Dick was highly influenced by his Yale educator, Josef Albers.  He has taken Albers'  discoveries and teachings to new heights, and is eager to pass his knowledge on to all who have eyes to see and ears to hear.

Here's some of what we learned... starting with the very basics:

Did you know that the 3 primary colors of pigment are cyan, magenta, and yellow? (as opposed to what we have always been taught... red, blue, and yellow, which are the primary colors of light!)

We learned how to create the illusion of luminosity using halations and vanishing boundaries.

In 8 weeks my vision expanded and I delved into the world of Abstract... something that has been calling me more and more... to use color and form for its own sake, rather than re-presenting something else.   I feel like I see in a more child-like manner as i practice my painting... seeing the world directly...  in the space before i name it.

.... so adieu for now, dear blog... i'm going to go paint....

A human being is a part of the whole, called by us Universe, a part limited in time and space.
He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest-a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.
This delusion is a kind of prison, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.
Our task must be to free from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.
